Pod and Pod+ were designed for Mathmos using their unique Fireflow candle powered lava lamp concept as a basis. The original Fireflow design which is shaped like a small Rocket has seen great commercial success through the years, the aim was to retain the unmistakable Mathmos retro futuristic aesthetic yet introduce a different form factor to the range. 

The capsule profile provides a rational & cocoon like form which then has references sci-fi in its surface details, an "Escape pod" if you will.

The Pod family also features a tessellated hexagon-shaped base, so in pairs or groups they relate to each other. This allows collectors to create a landscape of Pod and Pod+ using different lava colours and the two different heights.
