Pod and Pod+ were created for Mathmos, building on the success of their unique Fireflow candle-powered lava lamp. While the original Fireflow, with its rocket-inspired shape, has been a commercial success, the goal for Pod and Pod+ was to retain Mathmos’ signature retro-futuristic aesthetic while introducing a fresh, distinctive form to the range.

The capsule-like profile of the Pod series offers a smooth, cocoon-like shape, complemented by surface details that hint at a sci-fi "escape pod" theme. This blend of simplicity and subtle references to science fiction creates a unique yet familiar design.

A standout feature of the Pod family is the tessellated hexagonal base. When displayed in pairs or groups, the bases interlock visually, allowing collectors to arrange multiple Pods into dynamic "landscapes." By mixing different lava colors and combining the two available heights, Pod and Pod+ provide endless possibilities for personalization and creativity.
