Rokit - Lava Lamp

I designed and developed the Rokit Lava Lamp for Mathmos, a rocket-shaped giant lava lamp inspired by classic cartoon rockets from both the past and present.

Mathmos has a long history of success with rocket-shaped lamps, with some earlier models becoming highly sought-after collector's items. It was felt that the time was right to introduce a new rocket design to the Mathmos range. However, the challenge was to manufacture it in the UK while keeping it at an accessible price point—a significant hurdle given the rising material costs post-Brexit and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal was to create a distinctive and unique design that maximized perceived value while keeping production costs manageable. This was achieved through a combination of innovative design, improved production efficiency, and strategic material and component lightweighting. The result is a lamp that celebrates Mathmos' heritage while meeting the demands of modern manufacturing and affordability.
